Arturo Bernal commented on JSPWIKI-1247:
----------------------------------------
What the plugin does today, read from BugReportHandler.java and checked on a
running instance (master plus an unrelated parser change, Tomcat 10.1): it does
not send the report anywhere outside the wiki. It saves a new wiki page whose
text is a table with the title, the date, the version, the submitter (the user
name, or the address when not logged in) and any extra parameter, followed by
the description, and it prints a link to that page. The page name comes from
the page parameter or from the title, and a number is added when the name is
taken.
I put the plugin on a page with fixed parameters (title, description, version
and one extra parameter) and viewed it. A page was created with that table and
the description. Viewing the same page three more times created three more
pages, with the numbers 2, 3 and 4 added to the name, so with fixed parameters
every render saves a new page. The javadoc says that an empty title makes the
plugin return quietly, which suggests it is meant to sit in a form that fills
the title when it is submitted; I did not try it with a form, nor with the
permission to create pages turned off.
So a possible clarification for the javadoc and the documentation is that it
stores reports as wiki pages, that it is meant to be used from a form, and that
it creates a page on every render when the parameters are fixed. The javadoc
also still says that the map parameter is not understood, but the code uses it
to rename the table headers. I leave the issue open for the decision on whether
to keep, finish or remove it.

> not entirely sure what it does or if it works. doesn't appear to send bugs
> reports anywhere, just formats them on screen? Javadocs says it's still under
> construction. Either we need to finish it, remove it, or update the
> documentation.
> if it doesn't send it anywhere, what is it purpose?
