Looking for some assistance, not too familiar with mirrormaker.

In our mirrormaker, adding a new topic or removing an existing topic from the 
--whitelist in the config service file for mirrormaker stops all replication.
 # Could I get advise on why this might be & what to check?
 # Mirrormaker is at the target cluster
 # Topics are manually created in both source and destination
