KIP-909 (KAFKA-14648) added \{{bootstrap.resolve.timeout.ms}}, which lets
clients
resolve bootstrap DNS asynchronously instead of blocking at construction. It
currently defaults to \{{0}} (synchronous, original behavior), and
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-20939
forces it off entirely in Connect and Streams after issues surfaced during
early adoption. As a result the feature has stayed opt-in rather than becoming
the default.
This ticket tracks the work needed to responsibly enable it by default:
* Close remaining test coverage gaps around the async resolution path
(retry/recovery behavior, and shutdown while a resolution is in flight).
* Decide on and implement proper support in Connect and Streams, which
currently disable the feature outright.
* Re-evaluate the default value of \{{bootstrap.resolve.timeout.ms}} once the
above are addressed.
This is an umbrella/tracking ticket, work will happen in linked sub-tasks.
