Hi all, As Tiago, Eduardo, and I move forward with publishing the binaries for the 10.1.0 release, I want to initiate the effort to prepare the release notes.
With 10.1.0 being our second Apache release, following 10.0.0, we expect adoption to start picking up. It is essential that we enhance our communication of each release, particularly for users evaluating the project and its direction. I have created a draft release notes document here [1] Please take a moment to review and contribute any relevant updates from your area. The document is organized by brand to facilitate easier collaboration. Topics to Include - DRL Authoring: Classic vs. RuleUnits There has been increasing interest around RuleUnits, especially after the blog post that positioned it as the basis for a modular and cloud-native direction: https://blog.kie.org/2022/10/drools-8-final-toward-a-modular-and-cloud-native-rule-engine.html However, recent feedback has highlighted important maturity gaps. These are currently being discussed in the community, for example, in this PR: https://github.com/apache/incubator-kie-drools/pull/6352 - Deprecation of Infinispan-based Persistence - Deprecation of startProcess() API The startProcess() API is now deprecated. The recommended approach is to use the code-generation-based process integration, optionally combined with RuleUnits. More details here: https://lists.apache.org/thread/cftmsopn0tgz9prt3ronfkrz9l4llq1o I plan to wait 24 hours (or until the binaries are finalized) before publishing the announcements alongside the release. Please prioritize your contributions to the document so we can release it with proper communication in place. Thank you for helping to shape this critical milestone. P.S. Since we did not publish formal release notes for 10.0.0, feel free to include relevant updates from that release in this document. The goal is to provide users with a complete view of what has changed since the last pre-Apache version.
