Some queries about cube design

Hi ,
I was going through cube creation tutorial. It has options like hierarchy,
derived and normal while adding the dimensions. Is there a link to explain
the meaning of these? Does the dimension and lookup table mean the same ?
Any link to understand these terms will be helpful.
