Firstly, please ensure you have provided a ³Partition date column² when create the cube; you can check this by ³Edit² the cube and check it on the ³Refresh setting² step. If your cube¹s state is ³Ready², you need disable it before edit;
Secondly, your cube need be at least built once; Once success build will generate one cube ³segment²; From the error message I guess you haven¹t built your cube, please double check. Finally, the ³merge² is to merge multiple cube segments into one big segment, not to merge multiple cubes into one cube; For example, you have a cube ³A², the first time when build it, you select ³2014-01-01² to ³2014-06-30² as the date scope, it generates a segment; The second time you select ³2-14-07-01² to ³2014-12-31², it generates another segment; Then you can select to ³merge² these two segments to one big segments to cover all data in 2014; After the merge there will be one big segment. Usually it is okay to have < 10 segments; When the number increases you can merge them to control the total segments number, to gain better query performance.
