Glad to know that you are also working on OpenOffice. BTW do u happen to be in Dr. Ravi's group? As Manu said, Malayalam Unicode has got some unresolved issues. But there are workarounds possible by putting the missing glyphs in the reserved space. When the standard is finalised we just have to readjust the code space. Building OpenOffice in Malayalam comes much later. First the UI Strings have to be translated in Malayalam. As Manu is already working on Glossary u can start with UI Translations by downloading the latest POT files from ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/POT/ You can use POEdit tool for translations.
