On Saturday evening, 25 November 2006, at the African ICT Achievers Awards Translate.org.za won the award for "Top civil society/NGO to bridge the digital divide in Africa".
In part this is for our work to localise OpenOffice.org into the 11 official languages of South Africa but also includes work on Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird, spell checkers, keyboards and many other activities. We are very excited about the award as finally it seems that the technology focused ICT world acknowledges that language is indeed a part of the divide. And since the AU declared 2006 to be the year of African languages we're doubly proud. Please visit http://translate.org.za/content/view/1729/ to read more and see some pictures. You can find out press release here http://translate.org.za/content/view/1730/ We hope that this win is another flag for the empowering nature of FOSS and that it will inspire others to give software the intelligence to begin speaking their language. -- Dwayne Bailey Translate.org.za +27-12-460-1095 (w) +27-83-443-7114 (cell) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
