Italian team is doing the same.
It would be nice to know if also with the next minor release the l10n
fixes would be integrated.
my recommendation is to keep doing corrections so that they get
integrated into the next possible release.
But when will be English strings be merged again? For instance, all the
problems we found so far with "Note"->"Commenti" (the Italian equivalent
of the terminology change "Notes"->"Comments" in the English version)
are due to bugs in English strings.
The English string have now been fixed, see:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107023
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=109265
but in order to fix localisation we will need that the new strings are
imported in Pootle. These issues have target 3.3.
the plan is to switch to the latest released version of Pootle, perform
testing and then update the content. Ivo and Frank are working on this
and I hope that we can go on staging very soon. Before 3.2 was released,
it was too risky to start updating the current Pootle content.
