i just committed doug chestnut's webdav patch: http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=34994
with this patch, 1.4alpha1 is feature-complete (i will roll the release this weekend)
i suggest you give this webdav feature a try, the bugzilla entry has instructions.
