IMO that would be very strange. IIUC the protocol denotes the kind of
resource
you're accessing (or rather the kind of lookup mechanism), the rest of
the URI
the actual location of the resource.
I think it would make sense to ask also for opinion on the Jackrabbit
mailing list.
I guess you have something in mind like
SCHEME://AUTHORITY/PATH
as for instance
jcr://lenya/hugo
jcr://cocoon/hugo
