Does the user have to wait for the indexer during publishing, or does
it run in the background? If someone publishes five pages, will the
indexer be started five times? What if several people publish
(hopefully different) documents at the same time? Scheduling the
indexer as a background task with a delay solves all of these issues.
I have been playing with the LuceneIndexTransformer and it is amazingly
fast. Waiting is not needed, as only the published page is indexed,
which takes between 0.6 and 0.8 seconds on my overloaded celeron
workstation. I do not think that this will be a problem, as there is no
complete rebuilding of the index involved.
What happens if a (complete) indexing is running while an editor
is publishing a page? Is there some locking mechanism? If yes,
I guess we need scheduling or something similar.
