Michi posted this on the user list, but I've been wondering myself for a long time about one thing mentioned in the article, related to switching to JCR:

"One key feature of Lenya (...) is that all content is stored in XML files. (...) Another advantage of this approach is that all content is human and machine readable, so there is no possibility of being tied to a closed binary format: Lenya data should be free data forever."

Moving to storing information in Jackrabbit means a binary format; not a closed one of course, but still ... is this a concern ? (Or is it just me ;) )

IUUC this depends on the persistance manager or resp. maybe also on the specific JCR implementation (e.g. Jackrabbit or Jeceira).

We actually tried to implement a Lenya persistance manager to "simplify" resp. make the import/export transparent, but Jackrabbit doesn't pass the path into the persistance manager, only UUID. But I guess this has nothing to do with JCR,
but only with the implementation.

As I noted in previous emails I was rather skeptical about having to rely totally on JCR and also prefered one more layer in between, but in the meantime I rather
believe that JCR only would be fine and having a good export/import should
prevent the scenario you describe above.

It seems to me that we all should try to get more familiar with JCR and it's
various implementations (Jackrabbit, Jecereira, etc.) and maybe even do
one of our own, not to reinvent the wheel, but just to get a better understanding.

It seems to me it's just a matter of understanding and hence loosing our fears ;-)
