I think one reason to have additional data in the sitetree was that some
data belongs to a node, and not to a document.
But maybe we could introduce an additional meta data file (or a meta
data node in jcr) which contains meta data common to all language
versions of a document.

Whereas the Node is a container for different language
documents. The Document data type is the container of the
binary data. Both data types would be adored with a
mixin-type called meta.
