Definitely! IIRC the flat node design was chosen because of the lacking support of JCR's clone/update mechanism for single node updates. We should think about an alternative how publishing may be implemented. Using a basic hierarchical structure does not have an impact on the considerations made re separation of navigation from content as the content can still be referenced by UUIDs.
OK, this is true.
