That highly depends on how we implement the locationmap in the core. The locationmap is configured via *one* locationmap, but within this map you can mount other locationsmap.
How does this behave from a performance-related point of view? The TemplateFallbackSourceFactory basically checks a list of files for existence. I could imagine that mounting locationmaps etc. could significantly slow down the process.
