I used Cocoon 2.1.8 where the common-io jar was not yet included. That explains the problem. Thanks for your help. First I tried to use the current Cocoon SVN snapshot (BRANCH_2_1_X), but the compilation of that Cocoon version failed and so I used 2.1.8 instead, which compiled without any problems.
