the branch has been tested and should be ok for merging. the
instantiator should also work.
i'll be off the net until friday due to a job.
the multiple-inheritance stuff has not yet been removed in the branch.
in case anyone wants to look at my progress so far, there is a patch at
http://people.apache.org/~nettings/no-multitemplates.diff , but it does
not work yet - it's not clear what to return in case no template exists.
both null and "" break some stuff.
