playing with the ac configuration, i found this snippet:

"config/ac/ac.xconf".replace('/',File.separatorChar

Actually we should finally get rid of this stuff.
When we work with URIs instead of paths, and IMO we should
*only* work with URIs, then this is not necessary.

which is obviously a compatibility thing for the funny colorful
operating system. i wonder: is this necessary? because i'm pretty sure
that for example the publication.xconf code has a number of hardcoded
slashes... either the trunk hasn't been working on windows for quite
some time, or the java file layer takes care of this conversion
automatically.

Is somebody using 1.4 on Windows?
We should definitely do tests on Windows before the RC.

Yes we will (desperately waiting for an RC...). Unfortunately we didn't manage to lure all our customers away from Windows yet... ;-)

I could do some (limited) testing, preferably with clearly defined scenarios.
