Hi Lars,
punctuation in most languages I know requires some grammar processing so
it can be applied only by grammar checkers. For OpenOffice.org 2.x, you
can try LanguageTool - there are some generic punctuation rules, and a
good deal of Polish punctuation rules. Some English are there as well,
and a serious package of Latvian rules is in preparation. If you'd like
to help us with working on German, Swedish or English punctuation rules,
we'd be happy :)
Best regards,
Marcin
PS. take a look at www.danielnaber.de/languagetool - but remember that
the current version is in CVS.

I'd like to see red lines under the parentheses, comma and
multiple exclamation marks. A more correct punctuation would be:

Are there any plans to include checking of whitespace and
punctuation? Would that be part of spell checking, grammar
checking, or something else? I have the default install, with no
module for grammar checking included.
I have a secret theory that this could easily be included in a
spell checker, but I have no running code to prove this. My
experience is based only on English, German and Scandinavian
languages, which all use the same rules for punctuation. I think
French prefers whitespace before colon, and other languages
probably have even more exotic rules. Somebody with a good
overview of different languages should be able to design a general
punctuation checker that can be configured for each language. This
configuration could then be part of Hunspell's ".aff" file.
