As an aside...as I have now officially left Capgemini (I will be
resubscribing to the mailing lists soon with a new address) I am getting all
my capgemini mail forwarded to a Gmail account.

Gmail, as you may know, has some email-content related adverts down the side
of the page. The two ads it came up with for this email was a link to
netiq.com (Webtrends manuf.) - I guess you have looked on here Chris? But
the other link is for a 'Web Analytics Solution' at www.sane.com so it might
be worth checking out?

Chris

We have experienced something similar. We were running webtrends 5 with main
license and two additional licenses (we have one app server and two web
servers in a cluster)

We then upgraded the whole infrastructure and wanted to monitor an
additional server but webtrends 5 was out of date. So we were told this is
what we had to do:
-upgrade main software to v6.5
-buy the 'Essential Care' support for the year for that license -buy two new
'Essential Care' plans for the other two licenses
- purchase an additional license for the extra new webserver
- purchase an 'Essential Care' plan for the new license

The total of this little lot was quite a lot as you can imagine and all we
wanted to do was monitor one additional server when we were happy with the
existing setup.

All the new license keys and software are sitting at my work waiting to be
installed but I have just taken Voluntary Redundancy and I have got to go in
tomorrow for my last day and try and give someone a heads-up on how to
install and configure all this (and I don't really know myself). It
certainly seems like a huge pelava and cunning marketing ploy. I understand
that sometimes older versions of software are not going to be supported by
manufacturers but I think that this takes it to the extreme a little.

Chris, you may want to speak to the guys at Highlander.co.uk - they helped
me out with my purchasing/config needs and they have a Webtrends guy there.

Wish u the best of luck
Richard

Nothing like a bit of off-topic on a cloudy bank holiday Monday...

For years I've been using Webtrends Log Analyser to run reports on usage
statistics of my sites and a few of my clients' sites, which is all well and
good

...until that is, I moved those sites to a new server.

Webtrends bottles it, running away, throwing a grand hissy fit and telling
me that I should upgrade with a clustertrends add-on, since I'm now quite
obviously using a cluster environment.

Webtrends is of course entirely wrong, but you try telling that to a wussy
bit of software like that. It's gone home in a huff and won't come out to
play.

Of course the add-on is no longer available, due to a cunning ploy by the
Webtrends marketing division who decided to scrap all old versions, stop
supporting them and make lots of money by selling off an ultra-expensive
piece of crap called Webtrends 7.

I downloaded a demo of WT7 and tried to use it. I then stopped trying to use
it to save myself from almost certain brain failure, and have now drawn the
only possible conclusion.

Must.... start... from... scratch!

Must find new web analysis software that the bank manager will allow me to
buy, whilst simultaneously being fairly simple to use and actually give some
decent information about the logfiles. Webtrends 6.5 reports were pretty
good... not perfect by a long shot, but you can't have it all. But something
like Analog won't cut it. My clients will want to know why their nice
logfile reports have suddenly turned all crappy and worryingly short. Oh
yes, it's quite often down to quantity, not quality. You know how it is.

So I need your suggestions. Anyone using any decent logfile analysis
software that doesn't require a second mortgage and a PhD in astrophysics to
get past the initial installation? Answers on a postcard please... or
perhaps an email.

Cheers
Taz
