actually, ParameterExists() has been deprecated since version 4 ;)
As for using the service factory in a production environment, I'm not
sure I'm happy to do that ;(

None of the Service Factory methods are fully 'supported' - and yes they
could be changed / removed, though it is no not likely - just look at
ParameterExists() that was deprecated in MX but it is still there with 6.1
(and maybe even 7).
A lot of people use these methods for tasks which CF doesn't expose via its
tag library.
