Send me some screen grabs of you need to but really if all you have is a bak and you are restoring to a blank database should take you no longer than 10 minutes. I have done this many times, and the restoration path has been correct every time. And SQL Server always throws that error and tells you to use MOVE when trying to rename the database. For example you create a new Blank DB on C:\mydatabases but your backup is from D:\mydatabases - this will error when restoring as the backup file keeps the old filepath, but if you alter the path before restoring it will work fine , this is the defacto way of restoring a database uinless you want to Detach and do some other tasks on it. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Snake Sent: 29 July 2005 11:08 To: 'Coldfusion Development' Subject: RE: [CF-Dev] Restoring a database with MOVE >- see footer for list info -< If it was this simple I would have done it, to repeat my last reply. If you try and restore over an existing database and rename it, SQL Server will throw an error telling you. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file. But I have managed to do it by not restoring over an existing database, and renaming the database as well when it is restored. Right-click on the blank DB > All tasks > Restore Database, 2. Click From Device checkbox and select your .BAK file (not the LDF of MDF as you shouldn't need these) 3. Force over Existing Database and ensure you alter the paths in the . 4. Click on Options Tab > check Force restore over existing database 5. Click within the Move To Physical File Name box and ensure the path is pointing to your new blank DB which you created. 6. Click OK That is all you should need to do to restore a DB over a blank DB with the same data and schema as its original. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Snake Sent: 29 July 2005 10:51 To: 'Coldfusion Development' Subject: RE: [CF-Dev] Restoring a database with MOVE >- see footer for list info -< Because SQL then tells you.
