Although I would try it to be sure, as I have a vague  memory of using the
select max method myself for years, only to then find there was an inbuilt
method for Access to DO THIS.

I think your only option here is to wrap an INSERT statement and a SELECT
MAX(id_column_name) as new_id FROM table_name in a single (locked)
transaction.

Access doesn't support @@IDENTITY. It's autonumber field property isn't
actually exposed in any way other than via VBA and DAO which you wouldn't
want to do from CF.
