Thanks Stephen,

I wasn't aware that MM had yet released the CFMX 7.1 updater, looks like
it was only released yesterday, although I had been checking
periodically to see when it would appear.

About time MM released this... I always feel a lot happier running on .1
version rather than .0 especially since MM changed the goalposts
somewhat between 6.0 & 6.1 regarding CFCs.

Of particular note (to us and our clients anyway is support for
windows2003 + SP1 and jrun 5 hotfixes). I will download to our dev
server and evaluate (read watch all my SHadoMX CMS based sites break;)

Frames? People still use Frames? ;)

All joking aside, yes, you still need to lock to stop any problems with
Race Conditions, however, you can just as fine use a CFLOCK with the
NAME attribute rather than with the SCOPE attribute. However, you can
read happily without locking. You just need to be careful when writing.

If people are interested in reading about this then you can read these
articles:

If you aren't already aware there is an updater available for CFMX7

Paul- did you find out what you needed to know?

i.e. at the most basic level, request variables persist through the
compiling of a page request- if you declare them in application.cfm for
example, they are then available to all templates processed in a page
request.

I am getting someone to design a flash component for me that I will need
to supply data to, so I guess Flash Remoting Is my best bet. Is there
any recommended format for said data, i.e what is the easiest for flash
to work with and send back in the same format? As I understand it Flash
can take a structure, so could I just send it the raw query?

Queries are cool. It'll be available as a Resultset in Flash. Arrays are
arrays. Structures, if I remember rightly, are objects with properties.
Which means you'll access them as you would a structure.

Either way, I don't think you'll have any nasty surprises.

It'll take anything that CF can return (except objects), it really
depends on your Flash Programmer. Structure and Queries become objects
in Flash, arrays, strings and integers come over as they are.

It really depends on their skill level.

the only problem that i know of with raw queries is the upper case
column names. its not really a big problem, as long as the flash guy
doesnt mind ensuring that he uses uppercase for query results. simply to
keep to a self imposed standard of lower case, i convert all my queries
to an array of structs with lower case keys before sending them on to
flash. array of structs instead of struct of arrays also keeps the flash
developer happy, i forget why.

The casing problem is only a problem if you're using strick typing?

Hello again....

Is there an 'istime(#variable#)' function in coldfusion?

I just want to check that the user has entered a valid time on the form
rather than (fghjjgj) or some other rubbish. At present the code crashes
if
the user does this ....

I don't believe so, I find select boxes are pretty much a must when
letting users supply dates and times. Giving them a license to enter
anything into a text box is a pain.

Then you can use CreateDate() and CreateTime() and use try and catch to
make sure they are valid.
