ah of course, the latter is more likely, I hope it is that cos the udf
is using some java scripting that is somewhat over my head!

Sorry, I misread your code. I thought you were reading the session
var. My mistake for reading too quickly.
I would look to see if anything inside component() is doing anything.
Or, I would look at the ProductResultSet.cfc to see if it's something in there.

In the previous line I have:

The session has timed out so the UDF doesn't exist in the session
scope any more.
That's why the error is happening.

I am receiving the following error after a period of inactivity when I
try to access a page:
'The system has attempted to use an undefined value, which usually
indicates a programming error, either in your code or some system code.
Null Pointers are another name for undefined values.'
I hit refresh and the problem 'goes away'. The line the error report
points to is:
<cfset session.productListObj =
component("components/ProductResultSet.cfc", "r")>
Component is a udf I have included in the previous line and the
arguments I have passed it are literal strings so cannot possibly be
null pointers can they?
Am I right to assume that the error is happening within the udf
'component'?#
