That's what I thought.

Just in case anyone stumbles across the same problem...

The gateway I'm using is Protx and the host is CrystalTech.

Your site (at least with CT) will have two IPs, one for in-coming and one
for out-going requests. Protx needs the out-going one. CT will provide the
subnet and the IP if you ask for it but you can get the out-going IP with
some CF code if you need it (it's not the one listed in the control panel).

Because an IP can be on any subnet mask it's not possible to deduce which
one you need to use. Unless you do some physical test such as trying to
connect (probe/ping) to the IP using various subnets, starting with the most
common ones. As this is a payment gateway be careful not to try too often as
they may have some smart security that could block IPs that it considers a
threat.
