ah! I see!

Well, this is the one I use...

"^([[:alnum:]][-a-zA-Z0-9_%\.]*)?[[:alnum:[EMAIL 
PROTECTED]:alnum:]][-a-zA-Z0-9%\.]*\.[[:alpha:]]{2,}$"

serves me pretty well, as long as they don't bring out a 'X' suffix!

Sorry Rich - I should have been clearer - I meant I wondered what the
current preferred regex pattern for validating email addresses was, as
opposed to whether it is a good or bad thing.

In the past there have been a variety of patterns and arguments as to
which was best/most appropriate/whatever, so I thought I would see if
there had been any changes.....
