Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,
Ok, I'll bring you up to speed. I have a mysql 5 database, all tables created with latin charset. I have a couple of columns in a particular table that need to store data in unicode format, because the data may contain international characters. There's preexisting iso-encoded data in those columns. Here's my question: can I, and if so how, change the columns to utf-8, keeping my existing data intact, and then get cfmx 7 to insert utf-8 data into those columns via the same datasource which is inserting iso-content into different tables? I've read that I need to change the dsn connection string to allow unicode, but don't know if this is going to blow up all the other queries that use iso content. I haven't tried this yet, but I thought I'd ask before I jumped in and potentially made a right old mucky puddle. Fanks. I'm having sausages for lunch.
