hi Paul...

Thankfully the issue only shows up on our old system ;) As you may know I
wrote the new system to take this into account (hell I used the hastings
locale stuff you pointed me to at the time)... but you know dodgy Dave ;)
To be honest though, if the team hadn't added some hardcore reporting to the
said application this probably would never have been spotted. Either way
it's still an end of life system that needs to be taken out with a hacksaw.

You should see the next incarnation of the cd-rom - you'd be surprised by
it!

Tom,

For an application like yours, I would have expected your servers to be
set
to UTC and *never* change to BST... Doing this, you should then using some
CF magic and offset the times for display purposes only....

The thing is though, to correct this you either have to set the servers
back
to UTC and make the corrections in the DB or wait till we go back to UTC
in
the autumn and remember to set the servers to never use DST after they are
back on UTC. I'd go for the former as remembering to do that six months
from
now is not going to happen!!!

Also, how are you handling the display of datetimes for your global users
at
the mo? I assume you're showing them server local times? If you use UTC
and
do the offsets based on the users timezone, you will always be right
according to their timezones and life will be peachy!

You know where I am if you need any more assistance :)

Paul
