I think most of what he says is actually quite common-sense, such as the
article I linked to where he basically says what everyone else said here, that
a dropdown list of 100,000 names isn't a good idea! Unfortunately he's prone
to using statistics to come up with some crazy numbers to justify his job, like
this classic.

The total annual cost of intranet use can be estimated by multiplying by the
number
of employees. For companies with 10,000 intranet users, the annual costs are as
follows:
* Good usability (among the best 25%): $15.6 million
* Average usability: $20.7 million
* Bad usability (among the worst 25%): $30.4 million

IMPACT ON WORLD ECONOMY
If we improved all the intranets in the world to the usability level achieved
by the
best 25% in our study, the world economy would save $311,294,070,513 per year
for the sixteen test tasks alone. Adding the likely savings from
company-specific
tasks leads us to an estimated $600 billion in total annual productivity
improvements. This level of intranet productivity is a modest goal; we could
realistically achieve it with an investment of about $31 billion per year in
intranet
usability.

Assuming further usability improvements - up to the very best level we found for
each study task - could save the world economy $1.3 trillion per year when we
include estimated improvements in company-specific tasks.

It is hard to say how much further usability could be improved beyond what we
observed in the study, but even better designs are likely possible. In our
view, it's
conservative to conclude that the world economy could gain an estimated $2
trillion
per year in productivity improvements if all intranets had optimal usability.
This is
about the GNP of Germany.

Of course, these improvements would come at a cost, and the return on investment
does decline somewhat due to diminishing returns when we set the ambitious goal
of
giving everybody optimal usability. We estimate the world-wide cost of the
needed
usability projects to be $181 billion per year, or about the GNP of Austria.

Oh dear.... Jacob Neilsen - he of the unusable usability site....

I really wish people would stop listening to the junk that he's been
spouting over the years - life has moved on a lot since he made any kind of
sense.
