What I did on a big contract is to agree in a contract that the client doesn't have the right to access or modify the source files but to keep a copy in escrow which is only released on us breaching the contract or going out of business. The added bonus is both parties know exactly where they stand and no one can be accused of being sneaky etc.
Protection by a business contract gives you comeback but attempted protection by technology does not. (The class file deployment does sound cool though, but perhaps sneaky from your client's perspective) Gary F.
