If the pages are database driven and the data always need to be live to the
second, then you won't be able to use cfcache or in fact any other page
caching technique.
If however the data on the pages does not need to be live to the second,
then you can use caching for whatever period of time you feel is relevant.

Of course your problem will come if you need to un-cache specific pages, as
you will need to modify code or restart CF. In which case you would be
better off using a different solution.

I wrote a caching component once that allowed programmatic
adding/removing/updating and viewing of cached items, and an admin UI that
allowed you to view the entire cache as a tree and refresh/delete any item
in the cache, so perhaps something like this might server you better. It is
a simple thing to write actually.

Of course the best solution for caching and fast pages is to actually
generate static HTML pages and not have any CFM pages on the site at all,
then just have a scheduled task that re-generates the static pages as and
when needed.

<cfcache>

I have a feeling that I tried using this on a site several years ago,
but can't remember why we didn't continue with it.

The site is currently running CFMX 6.1 (with template caching and
trusted cache) against MySQL (with query caching). A N Other has
suggested to the owner that <cfcache> be implemented, but I am a little
wary of doing that on a site that has a huge set of possible URL
combinations (football leagues country-wide), and in excess of 300 cfm
pages and 400 <cfinclud>ed data queries.

Does anyone have experience of using cfcache in a busy production
environment - and are the overall results positive or negative (and why?)?

Cheers
Terry
