>- see footer for list info -< That URL is actually wrong Charlie, it is the OLD url. The url for the archive is since I locked it down is.
http://list.cfdeveloper.co.uk/mailman/private/dev/ And you do have to login to view it. This is a follow up to a note from several weeks ago, about a problem of this list being archived in a way that was exposing email addresses. Nick M raised it originally as a concern that some spammers seemed to have gotten hold of list email addresses, and Duncan C pointed out that it was indeed archived at http://list.cfdeveloper.co.uk/pipermail/dev/. Russ M then said he'd look into getting it to hide the email addresses, and reported later in Nov that the list was now restricted to members only until the problem was resolved. (I just checked to see if that was addresses, but instead the URL above fails, but maybe that's just temporary.) Anyway, I wanted to point out (whether for this list or others) that there is another alternative for archiving mailing lists: mail-archive.com. It's free, and it does hide the email addresses (see the 2nd paragraph at http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#spam). I also wrote more about it a few years ago in a blog entry at http://bluedragon.blog-city.com/archive_your_mailing_list.htm. And if perhaps that pipermail archive is really gone, you could move the archive of this there. I also mention in my entry that you can even import old messages into the list (more at http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#import). Hope that helps someone, whether for this list or any other. /charlie -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Snake Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 3:29 PM To: 'Coldfusion Development' Subject: RE: [CF-Dev] is this forum copied to a website for archive? >- see footer for list info -< I will see if it is possible to hide the email addresses so that this doesn't happen. I created this gmail account for use on this list and it's getting hammered with spam and I've never used it anywhere else. Does anyone know how spammers would get access to a private forum? Is anyone else having this problem?
