>- see footer for list info -< Hi Charlie, I went through each of the recommendations on the existing server before looking at last resorts which started with swapping to a new CF instance on the same box (same problem happened), trying it new CF instance on a separate box was my next plan when Russ suggested swapping the DB out. Having done this the problem went away immediately and has been stable all week which was previously unheard of so we are now back using the original instance on the original box and all seems well.
Thank you for trying to help, it was very much appreciated to know people are prepared to spend the time to support someone with less CF knowledge. Too bad to hear that you "got nowhere with the suggestion below". Inquiring minds may wonder how you got to the determination that "it turned out to be the database". Did you, in fact, try to do the CFABORT inside the CFCATCH, to see if you now saw a different error that was perhaps being hidden (for the reasons described)? It sure seemed a reasonable explanation of what was going on. If it wasn't that, then what led you to realize the problem was "in the database". Are you saying you just swapped out the DB engine and the error just went away? I suppose it could.
