hmm, I'm clutching at straws but have you tried passive mode? I did think for a moment it might have been that cf4.5 bug (hotfix available) where the connection attribute was ignored so the ftp session wasn't propagated between calls, but I don't think thats the case here cos you'd get connection errors (I think).
