change the template to return just the comma seperated list, then you can do anything you like with it. i.e. loop through the list

Basically I have a template that outputs some text onto the page, on one page it is a bulleted list but on another page I want it as a comma separated list. If I can catch the generated content as a string I can replace <li> with commas. This will be easier than altering the template so it can produce two different outputs.
