Not sure if this'll help or not but, I had something which was strange relating to client vars a few months ago
what I found was inconsistancy with client vars occuring where i was using cfinclude to include files where the file path was defined in the application.cfm. <!--- application.cfm ---> <cfset includedir = "http://mark/app/includes/"; <!--- in the template ---> <cfinclude template=#includedir#header.cfm> It only happen once in a while, but I had to go through and change the includes to <cfinclude template="../includes/header.cfm"> and the problems with client vars ceased. Strange I know, but it sorted it.
