i cant put it in the body tag as normal as the body tag is inside a static include file, then again i guess i could pass it as a coldfusion variable to the include file and then check if the attribute exists then write the onload handler using coldfusion

You could use document.write instead if you're wanting to do it programatically, but having two body tags in your document would cause problems for sure.
