Nothing wrong with the X-serve per se. It has more to do with the lack of support provided by Apple. We deployed an X-serve to run our DNS, and mail server. The machine began to crash on a regular basis and Apple suggested various software updates which we duly carried out. After 4 weeks of continuous crashing we managed to get an engineer out to replace the logic board and processor. (This was after 2 emails to the head of customer service in the US!). Apple still refused to accept that there was a hardware fault on this machine which was a co-located server.
To cut a long story short the engineer bent the pins on the new processor and then on our old processor as well!! This rendered the whole X-serve useless. Plus 12 hours of server downtime, 4 days of travelling to and from the colocation site. So, the Xserve is probably an OK machine but don't expect the support to match the price. We could have had 4 Cobalts for the price of the Xserve and had some decent support. Dave At 13:05 10/8/2002 +0100, you wrote: > > > > All seems to have been resolved now though.
