if your queries aren't properly locked down. normally this wouldn't be a
problem, on a low-traffic site with an Access db. However, if you examine
your logs, you'll see when any of the major spiders visit your site, they
are requesting a lot of pages in a very short space of time. so
simultaneous updating of your tables could be occurring, causing the
error. at least that's my best guess.

But there should be no way that this error will come up at all whatever
page the bot browses to. Previously I have only ever got this message if
I was still in design table view in access when I tried to run a query
in CF. How could a bot do that?

I get this sometimes on my Production server but it's just the GoogleBot
or some other search robot scanning through my links and attempting to
run a CF template.

This raises a question actually. Does anyone know much about web robots
and how they work? If I have a cfm page linked to from an html page,
will the robot attempt to run this - I guess it will. So, a best
practice would be to make sure that no potentially damaging script is
exposed to web-bots. Am I right?

Subject: [ cf-dev ] Locking error on DB

Morning all

I got this error sent to me last night at 5 in the morning.

Error Executing Database Query. [MERANT][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC
Socket][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Could not update;
currently locked by user 'admin' on machine 'THISTLE'. <br>The error
occurred on line 42.

Now I do work hard but believe it or not I was not up at 5 in the
morning with this DB open on my sever. Is there anything else that can
cause this?

Thanks
