Thanks Taz It works really well. I had a quick try of your online demo... And its quite a shock to see just how much Microsoft tags are added to cut+pasted "plain" text output from word. I've not had a chance to install and run the tag locally - I'll let you know if I run into any problems, but I don't expect to.
