Have you tried to swap the network card?

i'm gonna throw this out there as I am at tyhe end of my tether with this
one.

I have been installing windows XP on 8 exactly the same spec Dell machines,
same hardware, everything, same copy of XP, sam einstall procedure.
One of the machines just wont logon to the domain, when changing the
computer properties to connect it to the domain using either the "change" or
"networkID" option, it gets to the point where it asks you to supply and
acocunt that has permission to add the computer to the domain, then give
sthe error "network name not found".

I do recall that you usually do not even get that prompt if no domain
controller can be found, and all the other pc's logon to the DC just fine.
I even swapped the PC for another one just to be sure.

aaggghh
