yes the level of traffic is high and we are storing client variables in the
database,
we do use locks for session variables...

Could be a number of things. Is the level of traffic high? Are you storing
client variables in a database or have you left it on the default (registry)
setting? Or perhaps there're some named locks which are creating a deadlock
condition...
