having used mysql I quite like the help file that comes with it... you can
run it command line, or you can use MYSQL front, or phpMyAdmin (you'll need
php for this)... as for other guis, I've not tried them... You can use
myODBC, but that can be ARS* to get to work properly!

SapDB, does have a gui, that looks kind of like Enterprise Manager for SQL
server, I've not used it, but can it be that hard? Oh, and you can connect
to it via ODBC.

I could use MySQL I suppose. One of my databases is getting quite big
for access and I keep getting strange results back from it and insert
errors saying that it is locked. Anyone know how MySQL and sapDB
compare? I notice that MySQL appears in the CF admin Datasource page but
SapDB doesn't. May make it a bit easier getting it running.

I have never used either of these. Do they have a nice GUI and are easy
to use?

Giles - does it have to be MS-SQL or could you use MySQL?

Thanks for that, I'll take a look. After my first glance at the FAQ
seems like it could be useful.
