I was right, I was on the wrong track-)Try "Actionscript Reference" p323
describes vrios tricks for working with dynamic text fields and buttons eg
You can  do myArray = ["Bush", "Blair", "Sadam"];
and check see its working with
trace("myArray ["myArray ["+myArray[0]+" "+myArray[1]+"]");
look at example file dynamic_feedback.fla
Sorry if this not a help or more specific.
