I thought it was but registering that domain only cost 12 just in case
there was any truth in it!

Giles, we get this all the time, clients phoning us up wondering if they
really need to buy this domain etc. It's a complete and utter scam, and
i
usually advise that the client doesn't bother to register
"www.acmeandsonscompanylimited.com" etc.

coincidentally one of our clients phoned me i think day before
yesterday,
most likely the same company.

Sorry for the off topic post. I was just wondering about this.

Yesterday one of my clients was phoned by someone who said that they
were form a domain name registration company and that someone had tried
to buy a domain off them that was very similar to my clients. They were
phoning to offer the domain to my client to stop the other party getting
it. They couldn't say anything about the other except that they were
from the same area as my client. This would cost 100 a year or 200 for
10 years.

My clients phoned me up so I phoned and was told that they do this
because they are sick of angry people phoning up saying that their
domain name had been registered.

I simply registered the domain in question for 12 at UK2.net.

I can see a few problems with this. Surely if this person trying to
register the domain had to wait like that they would register it
somewhere else (for a lot less than 100). Secondly this registration
company is actually spending time and money offering the domain to
someone else when they already have a buyer - it seems like madness.

This must be a con. Anyone else had anything similar to this?
