The file was a correctly formed .cfmail file, but I have since tried
deleting all its content (which made it 0k) but nothing seems to have
changed.

I just looked and I have thousands of entries in the log file regarding that
file.

Last resort is to reboot server and delete the file. Any other ideas before
I try that?
