this is good, the sort of discussion i was wanting.

the teams/pitches thing was just an example of course.  in reality the site
this is for is small and won't matter much how i choose to do it, but i
just wanted to get some opinions and best practice ideas.

well in theory yes, but it really depends on the relationships/data and
growth... its one of those 'i can't give a decent answer unless i know the
whole picture' things.
and whereas the theory may say one thing, performnce/maintainance/useabilty
may decree another :)

if you are down to 1-1 relationships, then the data is 'incorrectly'
organised and you need to rethink the table structure, as probably this can
be shrunk down to a single table.
Fundementals of Database Systems by Elmasri/Navarthe explains the whole
thing very well and has been my stalwart design/normalisation book for more
years than i care to think about.
