a .war is a "simple" web application. It can be deployed by dropping the .war (or the expanded directories) onto a J2EE server instance and restarting it. In JRun (and most app. servers) you can also "hot deploy" them by changing jrun-web.xml in the war and you can deploy them manually via the app. server's console.
